When people talk about “underground” sounds they’re usually referring to indie rock, crunk, nerdcore or the latest ‘cutting edge’ form this week.
But when we talk about the “blues underground” we are talking about deep, dirty, old-fashioned blues with a twist – incorporating influences of jazz, rock, and even funhouse mirror versions of other roots forms like bluegrass and old-time mountain music.
The Blues Underground is excited to present this music which is raw and immediate and goes all the way back to the roots.

Sometimes simple is best.
Forget your flash super-pubs and snazzy cocktail bars.
Sandwiched under the staircase at the back of St Kevin’s Arcade in Karangahape Rd, the Wine Cellar is neither of these, but it’s still one of Auckland’s best little bars.
It’s all nicely bohemian with a grungy, student tinge, and the Wine Cellar actually feels more like an underground bar in San Francisco or Berlin.
The perfect place for some low-down blues.
